Salary is usually the first question people ask before joining a DevOps course, and the honest answer is a range rather than a single number. What you earn as a DevOps engineer in Pune depends mostly on your experience before the switch, how deep your hands-on skills are, and the kind of company you join.
Here is what the public data says, what we see among our own students, and what actually moves the number.
What the public salary data says
According to Payscale’s Pune data (179 salary profiles, updated April 2026), the average base salary for a DevOps engineer in Pune is about ₹11.3 lakh a year, with a typical range of roughly ₹4 lakh to ₹30 lakh. Entry-level engineers report total pay of around ₹4.1 lakh a year, although that figure is based on a small sample.
Salary sites differ in method and sample size, so treat any single figure as a guide. The useful takeaway is the shape: a modest starting salary, then a steep rise once you have two to five years of real production experience.
What we see among our students
Since 2015 we have trained more than 1000 professionals. Our placed alumni earn between ₹5 lakh and ₹18 lakh a year, and the biggest factor is where they started:
- Freshers typically start at ₹4 to 5 lakh, and the job search takes longer than for experienced candidates.
- System administrators with 3 to 7 years of experience often move from ₹3 to 4.5 lakh to ₹7 to 10 lakh after the programme, because their Linux and infrastructure background counts.
- Developers, testers and support engineers usually land somewhere in between, depending on how much of their past work involved deployments, scripting or cloud.
These are typical outcomes, not promises. Results depend on effort, interview performance and the job market at the time.
What pushes a DevOps salary up
Hands-on Kubernetes and cloud depth
Engineers who can troubleshoot a Kubernetes cluster or design cloud networking are paid noticeably more than those who can only run a pipeline someone else built. Certifications such as CKA or AWS Solutions Architect help shortlisting, but interviewers test whether you can do the work.
Infrastructure as code
Terraform and Ansible show up in most mid-level DevOps job descriptions. Being able to review and safely change infrastructure code is a skill teams pay for.
Security and reliability
DevSecOps and SRE skills, such as pipeline security, secrets management, monitoring and incident response, sit at the higher end of the range.
Type of company
IT services companies hire in larger numbers and are often the easiest first step. Product companies, startups and global capability centres in Hinjewadi, Kharadi and Baner tend to pay more for the same experience but interview harder.
How to move up faster
- Build projects that resemble production: a full pipeline, infrastructure as code, monitoring.
- Put everything on GitHub with a clear README.
- Practise explaining your projects out loud. Most offers are won or lost in the walk-through.
- After your first year, take ownership of something real: a migration, a pipeline, an on-call rota.
- Add one deep specialisation, such as Kubernetes, cloud security or platform engineering.

Can a fresher get a DevOps job in Pune?
Yes, but it takes longer than for experienced candidates, and starting salaries are lower. Freshers who do well have strong Linux basics, several solid projects and good communication.
Is DevOps better paid than software testing or support?
For most people we see making the switch, yes. Testers and support engineers who move into DevOps usually see a meaningful increase, especially after their first year in the role.
Does a certification increase salary?
